There’s something timeless about peppermint tea—the way it cools, soothes, and refreshes, no matter the season. But behind every sip is a long history of connection—between land, growers, and the people who have cherished this herb for centuries.
Peppermint thrives in cool, damp environments, which is why regions like the Pacific Northwest have become hubs for high-quality mint. But the process from farm to table isn’t just about geography—it’s about relationships. Farmers, harvesters, and tea makers all play a role in ensuring each leaf is grown, dried, and blended with care.
Our first experience of Alberta grown peppermint was in 2018. After a tough winter, sales were beginning to pick up speed. The source we were using for peppermint was not very transparent, and our founders (Alexandra and Wally) began looking at ways to bring more local ingredients into our blends. After receiving a small brown box of locally grown peppermint, they were struck by the aroma and strong flavour.
There are only a couple of Canadian farms that grow peppermint, so a lot of infrastructure needed to be developed to bring this part of the supply chain to life. What started as sourcing small amounts locally, soon became such large quantities that we needed to work with larger farms and do our own experiments with growing.
At one point, Alexandra has Alberta Health Services, certify a spare room in her apartment as storage for peppermint. This came to a screeching halt when the upstairs neighbors began to complain about “peppermint headaches” from the strong aroma. Our ingredients smelled that strong.
Over the years our sourcing policies and specifications have changed, but those early day conversations and experiences irrevocably shaped our business.
