Understanding Botanical Adulterants

🌿 Let's Chat About Botanical Adulterants🌿

For quite some time now, I've been contemplating writing this post because it's crucial for all of us as consumers to be well-informed.

First things first, what exactly are botanical adulterants? In simple terms, they refer to the deliberate or unintentional contamination or substitution of botanical ingredients used in various products. It's super important because it impacts the quality and safety and overall integrity of products.

Adulteration can arise from a range of factors. Sometimes, it's a result of intentional actions (could be potential issues with farms or suppliers who might not be fairly compensated for their crops.) or accidentally due to misidentification, cross-contamination, or poor quality control measures.

It's important for you as a consumer to source products from reputable brands and suppliers. Look for those who prioritize verifying the identity of the plants they use, comparing them against established international standards and go the extra mile by analyzing their ingredients ensure the absence of contaminants, adulterants, or harmful levels of heavy metals, pesticides, yeasts, molds, among other things.

Whether you're purchasing single-ingredient products or those with multiple components, you should be able to request a copy of the brand's certificates of analysis for each ingredient.
